Mudslides and Cheese at the Tillamook Cheese Factory

I was pleasantly surprised to find Tillamook's Red Cheddar stocked in S&R's shelves the other day, triggering memories of a trip many years back. Fond memories. And some great cheese and ice cream...

Located along North Highway 101 in Tillamook, Oregon, the Tillamook Cheese Factory is a great place to visit, and if you love cheese, ice cream and fudge, it's a mandatory stop while in Oregon (see more on Tillamook Cheese Factory in my other blog here at http://dude4food.blogspot.com/2012/07/side-views-awesome-sights-and-flavors.html).

An hour and a half drive from Portland takes you out of the city and transports you to scenic views of the forest and the dramatic Oregon coast. There are no entrance fees, and you can simply proceed at your own pace, just follow the signs for a self-guided tour. Up the second floor, one can view the actual factory floor, and witness a real production run. During my visit, blocks of cheddar were rolled out and packed. Seeing all that cheese can make you hungry. No worries. You can sample the different cheeses of Tillamook back at the ground floor, and shop for more Tillamook products at the Tillamook Store.

Every Tillamook product, fresh dairy products including ice cream, can be found at the Tillamook Store. And if you feel like a kid in a candy store, just go with the flow.

The Fudge Section is also impressive...

After the tour, go for some freshly made Tillamook ice cream. A Tillamook Mudslide and Coffee Almond Fudge combo on a waffle cone should do the trick. And with a sugar fix from Tillamook, you're ready to hit the road...
