A Peek at Hotel Luna's Art Collection

So close, you can see each delicate brush stroke. Hotel Luna's impressive art collection is an attraction in itself, featuring the very best of Philippine art by national artists and contemporary and local artists, each prominently displayed at the hotel's very own museum and just about everywhere at the hotel. And that's what makes Hotel Luna special. Here's a peek at some of the art pieces from the first hotel museum in the country...

Inspired by national artist Juan Luna, Hotel Luna continues the artist's passion for art with some of the best original private collections in the country (for more on Hotel Luna, check out my previous post here at http://soloexpeditions.blogspot.com/2014/08/history-and-art-vigans-elegant-hotel.html). The centerpiece of Hotel Luna's collection is the iconic oil on canvas masterpiece by Juan Luna, La Mandolinera (1883), proudly displayed at the hotel's museum. And almost immediately, one is drawn to the soulful eyes of Juan Luna's mandolin player, a piece of beautiful history up close.

Other prominent works in the hotel's museum include the classic Lavandera (1959), an oil on canvas piece by national artist Fernando Amorsolo, with each brush stroke capturing each shifting shade of light.

The subdued colors of national artist Vicente Manansala's Tree (1974), a watercolor on paper piece, is both both calming and soothing.

Hotel Luna's private collection includes sculptures made from a variety of materials created by contemporary local artists, including Soul Released (2013), a graceful and delicate brass, stainless steel, copper, and bronze sculpture by local artist Daniel Dela Cruz, elegantly displayed at the lobby. Each area and corner of Hotel Luna displays a piece of art, adding to the unique Hotel Luna experience.

At Hotel Luna;s Comedor, the fine dining restaurant, one can find the free-flowing glass sculptures by Ramon Orlina, dramatically lit to highlight each shape.

At Hotel Luna, your personal journey of discovery continues as you walk out to the veranda where the visually stunning depiction of the historical city of Vigan in hammered brass, stainless steel and silver by Rene Robles at the hotel's veranda overlooking the pool simply takes your breathe away.

Located at the very heart of Vigan's historic heritage district, stepping inside Hotel Luna takes you back in time. And the priceless art collection completes the impression, combining history and art for one memorable and unique experience. Hotel Luna is an art piece in itself, and there's no better place to stay in Vigan than in the country's first museum hotel.

  1. Very interesting!
This portrait reminds me a kind of pictures painted in Portugal, about "fadistas" (women singers playing and singing "fado").
    I like it!

    1. Hi Vitor, it's quite an impressive collection, and it really differentiates and sets the hotel apart, now I'm curious about Portuguese "fado". Thanks for visiting my blog!
