Philippine Airlines rich history includes a long list of firsts, including the distinction as Asia's first airline established back in March, 1941 with its maiden flight carrying five passengers from the historic Nielsen Tower in Makati to Baguio. Philippine Airlines is also the first Asian airline to fly across the expansive Pacific, dramatically expanding its reach. It was the first local airline designated to fly a Philippine president for a state visit to another country in 1958. Philippine Airlines was the first Asian airline to enter the jet age, being the first to operate a jet aircraft in 1962.
