Go North: The Magic Hour's Shifting Colors at Calle Crisologo

The clatter of horse-drawn calesas, the calls of vendors offering their wares, and groups of visitors posing for the mandatory's great to be back at Calle Crisologo.

A longer stay on my second visit to Vigan provided an opportunity to see the historic street in different colors during different parts of the day, revealing even more of Calle Crisologo with the shifting light.

And as E. E. Cummings put it, the perfect time for a glimpse of "scattering poems..."

Going The Distance with Pacman and AirAsia

It's been said that the entire city slows down each time Pacman enters the ring. That Sunday morning, Metro Manila, and the entire country, slowed down to a halt. It was, after all, the fight of the century.

AirAsia, as part of its exclusive partnership with Team Pacquiao, invited special guests to a live screening of the Pacquiao-Mayweather Bout last Sunday at MOA's Center Stage. AirAsia also provided simultaneous live screenings at Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Boracay, and Davao. Ten rounds that took almost five years of intense negotiations, live on the big screen.

Walking The Strip

It's probably the most famous 4.2 mile strip in the world, and there's really nothing that can compare to its dazzling display of bright neon and spectacular shows. You can opt to ride The Deuce, the familiar double-decker that plies the route, or feel the local vibe by walking the strip...

...and walking the strip allows you to notice the small things and details that are often missed while speeding by in a bus. Get your loafers ready and hit the strip.

Lost in the Stillness at Mont La Salle

A place of serene calm in the valley, far from the usual crowd of visitors and tourists, and an idyllic stop while going sideways in Napa...

Mont La Salle's imposing presence high above the hills of Napa remains one of the most memorable sights I have of the valley. The beautiful Spanish Romanesque and California Mission architectural style of the chapel and other structures in the property provide a dramatic backdrop to the vineyards, as low-lying clouds sweep over the hills, draping it in an elegant early morning veil.

Children of God, A Faith Renewed...And the Pope That Got Away

A child is lifted on the far side of the boulevard to welcome the final motorcade of Pope Francis, a sight that was constantly repeated in those few seconds as the Popemobile sped by. It was the last day of the papal visit, and my last chance to get up close for that once in a lifetime photograph...

The last five days with Pope Francis reignited a passion that has somewhat waned the past few years, but seeing him with the country's faithful, his deep compassion for the survivors of Typhoon Yolanda, and his sincere love for the Children of God reminded me once again of faith and trust. Add the "rock star" appeal of Pope Francis, and get ready to feel the "Pope Francis Effect"...
